Scrum Poker Estimates for Confluence

Scrum Poker Estimates for Confluence helps teams run planning sessions in an interactive and engaging way by playing Planning poker.

Team members can create tasks or import backlogs from Jira, estimate tasks with a fun game by voting separately and avoid group think, reset rounds until the entire team agrees on an estimate and keep track of estimates. At the end of the session you can easily see the results of the estimations and send them to Jira if you used tasks from a backlog.

1. Installing the Scrum Poker Confluence - Jira integration Add-on

If you'd like to import Jira backlogs to your Scrum Poker Estimates for Confluence add-on's planning sessions you'll need to install and setup the Jira integration. Please follow the next steps:

Install the Add-on

  • Go to the Settings - Add-ons inside your Jira's instance.


  • Click on the Manage Add-ons option


  • Click on the Find new add-ons link


  • You'll be sent to the Marketplace for Jira's add-ons. Type "Scrum Poker" in the search bar.


  • Click on the install button of the Scrum Poker Estimates Jira integration add-on


  • A confirm add-on installation message will pop-up. Click on the "Accept & Install" button.


  • The installation of the add-on will start and show the process in a pop-up.


  • Once the installation is finished, you'll get a confirmation and you'll be ready to go!


Configure Jira to send estimates as Story Points to Story type Jira issues

  • Go to Settings - Issues inside your Jira instance


  • Access the Custom fields option


  • Look for the Story Points custom field


  • Click on the menu and select the Screens option


  • Add the desired Screen to the Story Points custom field by checking those projects you want Scrum Poker Estimates for Confluence to send estimates to Jira with the Jira add-on integration.

Once you changed and saved your preferences, you should be able to send estimates to Jira using Scrum Poker Estimates for Confluence - Jira integration add-on

2. Playing with a Jira backlog

Launching the Add-on

  • Access a page in Confluence or create a new one.


  • Click below the title of your page and type "{Scrum" and then select the option Scrum Poker Estimates.


Setting up the game

  • After selecting the Scrum Poker Estimates add-on, a modal will appear to start setting up the planning session.


  • Enter a name for your backlog for the planning session, so other team members can identify the tasks being estimated.


  • Then, you'll need to select how would you create tasks. You have to select the Import tasks from Jira option.


  • Click on the Next button.


  • Select the backlog you want to import to select your tasks for the planning session and click on Next.


  • Select the tasks you want to include in your estimation session by clicking on the "+" of each task.


  • You can review the tickets that you selected on the "Selected Tasks" tab. Click on Next to continue the process.


  • Select the type of card set you want to use on your estimation session.


  • Select the type of results you want for your estimations. Click on Save to finish the setup of the macro.


  • Click on Publish.


  • You’ll see the list of tasks for your planning session.




Playing Planning Poker


  • Launching the session

Share the link of the Confluence page to your team members and ask them to click on Estimate Now button

 


You'll be prompted with the dashboard for the planning session.


Once you see all the players are ready to play a session, click on Let's play.

The dashboard is divided in three. In the left side you'll see the players in the session

And also the list of tasks you'll be estimating.


In the center of the dashboard, you can find your card set. Here you'll be able yo select your estimations.


In the right side, you'll see instantly the results of the estimations.



  • Vote

Select the card that best reflects your estimate


Click on Vote Now to enter your vote.


You'll be able to see your vote in the list of players and also in the right side of the dashboard


When all your team votes, you'll be able to see what each person voted in the players list and also the final result of the estimation in the right side of the dashboard.

NOTE: This result will depend on the type of result you chosen in the setup.


To continue estimating another task, click on Next button in the right side of the dashboard.



  • New round - Reset round

When there are differences on the estimation between team members, you can always discuss their point of view and setup a new round by clicking on New Round.



  • Take a break

Whenever a team member needs to take a break for any reason, they can vote Take a break by clicking on the button.


Your vote will appear as a coffee mug in the players list and in the right side of the dashboard will appear a message to all the team members to let them know about the break.


To move on after the break, you'll need to reset the round and vote again. Click on the Reset round or New Round button.



  • Finish session

After finishing the estimations, they will appear in the Tasks tabb in the left side of the dashboard.


You'll need to click on the Save Session button in the right side of the dashboard to finish the session.


You'll be prompted with a message that the estimation session has been saved. Click on the check or X mark on the top right of the screen.


3. Playing without a backlog

Launching the Add-on

  • Access a page in Confluence or create a new one.


  • Click below the title of your page and type "{Scrum" and then select the option "Scrum Poker Estimates".


Setting up the game

  • After selecting the Scrum Poker Estimates add-on, a modal will appear to start setting up the planning session.


  • Enter a name for your backlog for the planning session, so other team members can identify the tasks being estimated.


  • Then, you'll need to select how would you create tasks. You have to select the Create new tasks here option.


  • Click on the Next button.


  • You'll need to create the tasks for your estimation session by typing them and hit enter.


  • When hitting enter, the new task will appear as entered for the estimation session.


  • You can edit the tasks you already entered by  selecting it and clicking on the "Pencil" icon.


  • You can also delete tasks you already entered by selecting it and clicking on the "Trash can" icon.


  • After finishing up entering the tasks for your estimation session, click on the Next button.


  • Select the type of card set you want to use on your estimation session and click Next.


  • Select the type of results you want for your estimations. Click on Save to finish the setup of the macro.


  • Click on Publish.


  • You’ll see the list of tasks for your planning session.



Playing Planning Poker


  • Launching the session

Share the link of the Confluence page to your team members and ask them to click on Estimate Now button

 


You'll be prompted with the dashboard for the planning session.


Once you see all the players are ready to play a session, click on Let's play.
